Deadline Day: Dessers joins Greek giants Panathinaikos  from Rangers

Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers has joined Greek Super League giants Panathinaikos on a three-year deal from Scottish Premiership side Rangers, Afrosport reports.

The 30-year-old joined the Glasgow giants from Italian Serie A side Cremonese in 2023 and had a prolific stint at the Ibrox Stadium with 52 goals and 17 assists in 116 competitive outings.

He won the Scottish Cup at the end of his first season and finished as the Premiership top scorer during the 2024-25 campaign with 18 goals.

Dessers made a farewell post to the Gers on X which read: “It was an absolute honour to wear the nr. 9 at Rangers, something that will fill me with pride for the rest of my life.

“I want to wish everybody at Rangers all the best, take good care of the club, you guys are so important.”


Panathinaikos is the 10th club of Dessers’ career having previously played for OH Leuven, Lokeren and Genk in Belgium as well as NAC Breda, FC Utrecht, Heracles Almelo and Feyenoord in the Netherlands.

He is also the 10th summer signing for the Greens after notable names such as Renato Sanches, Davide Calabria and Morocco winger Anass Zaroury.
