Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, Afrosport reports.
According to Sky Sports, the move will be worth €50 million, with an initial €45 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, as reports suggest the transfer will be wrapped up on time for the defender to be available for United’s Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday.
The 24-year-old has spent two seasons at Bayern Munich since signing from Juventus.
He has played 73 games and scored five goals. He also played under United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, winning the Eredivisie in 2019 and reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
When the deal is completed, the Netherlands defender will be the Red Devils’ second centre-back signing of the summer after the arrival of Leny Yoro who is out for three months due to a foot injury.
De Ligt has played 45 times for the Netherlands, and was part of the team that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024 championship in Germany.
