A French court has ordered Paris Saint-Germain to pay former player Kylian Mbappe €60 million in unpaid wages and bonuses, Afrosport reports.
The ruling on Tuesday comes are months after the France superstar of Cameroonian heritage took PSG to court for he withholding payments to him for the final three months of his contract before he joined Real Madrid in a blockbuster free transfer last summer.
According to reports, the court found that PSG had failed to pay Mbappe’s salary in March, April and May 2024, an ethics bonus and a signing bonus and did not have a written agreement indicating it had been waived.
The judges presiding over the case rejected PSG’s arguments that Mbappe should forfeit the payments for hiding his intention not to renew his contract for almost a year, which prevented the club from securing a transfer fee.
The judges also dismissed a number of claims by Mbappe, including allegations of concealed work, moral harassment and breach of the employer’s duty of safety.
Reacting to the ruling, his legal team said: “This judgment confirms that commitments entered into must be honoured. It restores a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, labour law applies to everyone.
“Mr Mbappe, for his part, scrupulously respected his sporting and contractual obligations for seven years, right up to the final day.”
