Como boss Fabregas fails to rule out reunion with Messi

Como manager, Cesc Fabregas, has not ruled out the possibility of Lionel Messi playing for the club in the near future, Afrosport reports.

Messi is currently on the books of Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami in the United States and has a contract in place until the end of this year.

This could potentially give the 38-year-old the chance to join another club if he fails to renew his contract.

Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, was in the stands of Como’s 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Lille last Friday, prompting questions whether it is a sign the Argentine superstar could come to Italy.

Fabregas, in his response said: “Never say never, he was over at my house for his vacation. We are friends, so are our wives and children. As Ludi said after that match, we cannot say Messi has never played at Como, seeing as his kids are here. But he is in America.”

Fabregas and Messi were teammates at Barcelona between 2011 and 2014, winning five titles, including the Copa del Rey in 2012 and La Liga in 2013.

Como finished an impressive 10th in the Serie A last season, having returned to the top flight for the first time in 21 years.

The Lombardy outfit will face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 10 as part of their pre-season preparations before the 2025-26 campaign kicks off against FC Sudtirol in the Coppa Italia first round, while they will host Lazio in their Serie A opener on August 24.
