Evan Ferguson joins AS Roma on loan from Brighton

Evan Ferguson has joined Italian Serie A giants AS Roma on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for the 2025-26 season, Afrosport reports.

The 20-year-old Irish forward joined the Seagulls from Bohemians in his home country in January 2021 at the age of 16, making his breakthrough during the 2022-23 season, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions and earning his senior debut for the Ireland national team.

The following season however saw his time on the pitch limited after suffering a cruciate ligament tear, and struggled to hold down a regular starting place.

It continued into the 2024-25 campaign and went out on loan to West Ham United in February, but made only eight appearances under former Brighton boss Graham Potter.

“Roma are delighted to announce the signing of Evan Ferguson from Brighton. Ferguson will join Roma on loan with an option to buy,” Roma said in a statement.

“Ferguson has chosen the number 11 shirt.  Welcome to Roma, Evan!”

Ferguson hopes to revive his career under new Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who helped the likes of Ademola Lookman, Gianluca Scamacca, Duvan Zapata, and Luis Muriel become prolific goalscorers during his time at Atalanta between 2016 and 2025.
