Manchester United are out of European competitions this season after a Kingsley Coman second-half strike ensured they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils headed into the game at Old Trafford needing a victory as well as a draw in the other group game between Copenhagen and Galatasaray. However, Erik Ten Hag’s men were uninspiring as they lost their fourth game in Group A—the first time in history such has happened to the Premier League side.

Bayern had already booked a place in the round of 16, and they looked the more enthusiastic side, with Harry Kane and Jamala Musiala looking really dangerous from the onset.
Shortly after German shot-stopper Manuel Neuer denied Luke Shaw from close range, Musiala came close to opening the scoring in the 26th minute, but Diogo Dalot was alert to clear the danger.
United lost two players to injury after the first half, and they seemed reborn after the restart, with Bruno Fernandes blasting his effort over the bar and Kim Min-Jae clearing a dangerous low cross from Alejandro Garnacho, which was headed for Rasmus Hojlund.
Coman eventually broke the deadlock in the 70th minute with a well-taken strike, beating Andre Onana after being teed up by Kane. Kane should’ve gotten on the scoresheet himself, but his header from a corner kick was just wide of the United goal.
Bayern improved their unbeaten record in the competition’s group stages to 40 games, while United finished bottom of their group for just the second time, having previously done so in the 2005–06 season.

Ten Hag’s team have now lost 12 of their 24 games in all competitions this season and they are out of two competitions—the Carabao Cup and the Champions League—but they will turn their attention to the Premier League, where they will make a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in a crunch derby on Sunday.
