Nigeria Women Football League champions Bayelsa Queens finished third in the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League after pipping Tanzania’s Simba Queens to a 1-0 win on Saturday night.
Juliet Sunday’s 71st-minute goal was enough for the Prosperity Girls to thump their Easter African counterparts at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat.
Shortl after the lead, goalkeeper Bawou Gabrielle produced fine saves to secure Bayelsa Queens’ bronze medal and also the Woman of the Match award at the end of the game.
Bayelsa Queens are now the first Nigerian team to win a medal in the CAF Women’s Champions League, after Rivers United failed to make it past the group stage in the maiden edition.
