Bayelsa Queens have booked their place in the semi-finals of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Togo’s ASKO on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.
The reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions, who opened their campaign with a narrow 2-1 win against Ghana’s Police Ladies, made it back-to-back victories to maintain a perfect start to the tournament.
An own goal from ASKO defender Oumou Bani alongside goals from Alaba Olabiyi and Shakirat Moshood was enough to hand the Prosperity Girls a much-deserved victory at the Stade du Lycee Scientifique in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
After a very cagey first half, which ended goalless, the Nigerian champions took the lead just two minutes after the restart when Bani diverted the ball into her own net.
Olabiyi doubled the advantage in the 53rd minute before Moshood, who scored their opening goal in the competition, sealed the win with a well-taken strike 10 minutes from time.
The result keeps Bayelsa Queens at the top of Group B with six points, putting them firmly on course for another title push. They face Benin Republic’s Sam Nelly in their final group fixture on Saturday as they look to reclaim the WAFU B crown they last lifted in 2022.
Meanwhile, in the other group game, Police Ladies claimed a 3-1 win over Sam Nelly to make for a tense final day.
