Moroccan and Egyptian heavyweights, Wydad Casablanca and Al Ahly, were on the winning side of their respective rescheduled matchday one CAF Champions League games, defeating AS Vita of DR Congo 1-0 and Coton Sport of Cameroon 3-0.
Both teams missed matchday one due to commitments at the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco and had no problems showing the winning mentality that saw them both reach the Champions League final last season, which Wydad was victorious in.
The defending champions got the better of AS Vita at home on Friday, courtesy of an own goal from Guy Magema while Mohamed Sherif, 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) runner-up Ahmed Kendouci and Khalil Raafat were all on target for Al Ahly in Saturday’s encounter with Coton Sport for their first win in the competition this season.
