CAF Champions League: Wydad Casablanca & Al Ahly’s season by the numbers

Wydad Casablanca welcome Egyptian giants Al Ahly to the Stade Mohammed V on Sunday, June 11 for the second leg of their CAF Champions League final.

The Red Castle suffered a 2-1 loss in Cairo a week ago and will need to win the Sunday’s return fixture to retain the continental title they won last season.

18 – The Royal Castle have managed to scored 18 goals in the competition and their highest win was a 6-0 victory against Rivers United in October 2022

12 – The Moroccan club played matches to reach the final stage of the elite African club competition, starting with a qualifying fixture against Nigeria’s Rivers United which ended by 7-2 on aggregate.

7 – Senegal striker Bouly Junior is Wydad Casablanca’s top scorer in the Champions League this season with seven goals, including three goals in the qualifiers against Rivers United.

4 – Sven Vandenbroeck’s side have suffered four losses in the competition this season, starting from the first leg of their qualifying game against Rivers United (2-1), 1-0 loss to Algeria’s JS Kabylie in their opening group game, 1-0 defeat to Tanzania’s Simba SC in the first-leg of their quarter-final fixture and the most recent was a setback in the first-leg of the Champions League final as they bowed 2-1 to Al Ahly.

0 – Wydad Casablanca are yet to receive a red card in the competition this season even though their aggressiveness has resulted in 15 yellow cards in their last five Champions League matches.


Al Ahly

2 – The Red Devils have lost just matches in the CAF Champions League this season. Both losses came in the group stage, 1-0 loss to Al Hilal in Sudan and a 5-2 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

2 – Al Ahly have scored in all but two of Champions League this season. They struggled to find the back of the net in Sudan against Al Hilal and also against Raja Casablanca during the second leg of their quarter-final clash in Morocco.

6 – Mahmoud Kahraba is the joint-top scorer in the CAF Champions League this season alongside Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile

26- Al Ahly are one of the highest-scoring teams in the competition this season with 26 goals and their biggest win in the competition was a 4-0 triumph over Cameroon’s Cotonsport in Garoua.
