Collins Chinemerem Ugwueze, captain of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enugu Rangers, has expressed confidence in the team’s chances of reaching the next round of the CAF Champions League.
The Flying Antelopes pipped U.S. Zilimadjou of Comoros 1-0 last Sunday in the first leg of their first preliminary round clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, thanks to a 22nd-minute strike from Frank Uwumiro.
While speaking to the club media on Thursday, Ugwueze affirmed that he and his teammates are quite aware of the task ahead and will do all it takes to excel.
He said: “Since the end of the first leg, which we won by God’s special grace, we have intensified our preparations. I believe this will see us through the second leg.”
“While we are pleased with the first-leg victory, we are not underestimating our opponents. Our focus is on playing a good game and securing a strong win for our fans and supporters,” he added.
Fidelis Ilechukwu’s Rangers side will host Zilimadjou at the same venue in the second leg on Friday, knowing that they will go through to the next round if they avoid defeat.
