CAF Champions League: Enugu Rangers eliminated from final qualification round

Enugu Rangers were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Sagrada Esperanca of Angola after a 3-2 aggregate scoreline in their second preliminary round clash on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The Flying Antelopes took a 1-0 lead into the second leg clash, courtesy of a 78th-minute strike from Kazeem Ogunleye at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The eight-time Nigerian champions were however beaten 3-1 at the November 11 stadium in Luanda in the second leg.

The defeat means Fidelis Ilechukwu’s team will not take part in the lucrative group stage of the tournament.

In  CAF Champions League games, MC Alger eliminated Monastir 2-1 on aggregate, Raja Casablanca ousted Ghana’s Samartex FC after a 4-2 win, Esperance Tunis won 8-0 at the expense of Dekedaha FC to go through 12-1 on aggregate.

Twelve-time winners Al-Ahly of Egypt thrashed Gor Mahia 3-0 and 6-0 on aggregate, TP Mazembe beat Red Arrows 2-1, and Maniema Union won 2-1 at the expense of Petro Luanda.

AS FAR of Morocco also progressed to the group stage after beating Al-Merrikh of Sudan 4-2 on aggregate, Mamelodi Sundowns went through as well after thrashing Mbabane Swallows of Eswatini 8-0 over two legs, Orlando Pirates also won 3-1 on aggregate at the expense of Jwaneng Galaxy.


Pyramids FC defeated APR FC 3-1 on aggregate, Milo FC won 2-1 at the expense of Ivorian side Stade D’Abidjan, ASKO Kara of Togo sent Djoliba AC packing after a 1-0 aggregate scoreline, while Al Hilal of Sudan triumphed 1-0 against FC San Pedro of Ivory Coast.
