Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season in a ceremony in New Orleans on Thursday, Afrosport reports.
Allen wins the award for the first time in his career, having been selected ahead of last year’s winner and two-time MVP Lamar Jackson
The 27-year-old, who was selected with the seventh overall pick by the Bills in the 2018 NFL draft, got 27 first-place votes to Jackson’s 23 and finished with 383 points.
“I do appreciate it,” said Allen about being named MVP. “I think there are a few guys on my team who appreciate it even more than I do.
“This award isn’t the reason why I play this game. Obviously, I want to be recognised as [being] great at what I do and one of the best at what I do.

Allen threw for 3,731 years, while recording 28 touchdown passes and 12 rushing touchdowns this season. He became the first player in NFL history to have five consecutive seasons with at least 40 total touchdowns.
The Bills’ No. 17 became the first quarterback to score multiple rushing and passing touchdowns in back-to-back games, and the first to claim a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game.
He registered career lows in interceptions, sacks and fumbles, and led the Bills to a 13-4 record, reaching the play-offs for a sixth straight year as well as clinching a fifth straight AFC East title.
Allen, however, is yet to reach the Super Bowl as the Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs for the second time in the AFC Championship game.
“I still want the Super Bowl,” he said. That’s our goal. But I will say this, this award [MVP] means your team had a lot of success. We didn’t get it done but we will keep working until we do.”
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley finished third (120 points) in the MVP voting ahead of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (82) and Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff (47).
