Bruno Fernandes rejects Al-Hilal offer to remain at Man United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has turned down an enormous offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, Afrosport reports.

Fernandes was reportedly considering a move to Al-Hilal, with the Saudi club offering the Portuguese midfielder more than double his salary at United.

The 30-year-old was said to be in discussions with his family regarding the move, but reports on Tuesday suggest he has informed Al-Hilal of his decision to stay in Manchester.

Fernandes joined United from Sporting in January 2020 and was named captain in July 2023 after establishing himself as one of the best players in world football.

His refusal to move away from Old Trafford follows Ruben Amorim’s statement after United’s head coach on Friday said he believed Fernandes would remain at the club.

United are understood to be delighted by the news, which came after head coach Ruben Amorim on Friday expressed his belief that Fernandes would remain at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think so. I don’t know for sure, nobody knows, but I don’t think so,” said Amorim when sked if United’s preseason win over over Hong Kong could be Fernandes’ final appearance for United. “I think he’s seeing us taking some actions to change things and that’s all he asks.

“I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things, but that shows he wants to win. He’s really young, he’s really good, he needs to be in the best league in the world.”

Fernandes has undoubtedly been United’s most important player in recent times, scoring 98 goals and providing 86 assists in 290 appearances in all competitions, including eight goals and 10 assists in 36 matches in the Premier League in 2024-25.

He has won the FA Cup and League Cup and has lost two Europa League finals since joining United.

Fernandes, meanwhile, is currently with the Portugal national team ahead of their Nations League semi-final clash against Germany at Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
