Boniface: Medical concerns stall Nigerian striker’s move to AC Milan

Boniface’s agent to travel to Italy to finalise AC Milan loan deal

Victor Boniface’s move to AC Milan has hit a stumbling block after medical checks raised concerns over his right knee, Afrosport reports.

The 24-year-old underwent extensive tests in Milan on Friday, but reports in Italy suggest an issue flagged during the examinations, has left the Rossoneri weighing up whether to proceed with the deal.

The Nigeria international, meanwhile, has returned to Germany and Milan are expected to decide within the next 24 hours whether to continue with the transfer, which had been structured as a €5 million loan with a €25 million option to buy.

AC Milan director Igli Tare confirmed the club’s cautious stance, telling reporters: “We are checking Victor Boniface’s medical. His football skills are excellent, but we need to take the right decision. We will make the final decision soon, also with our coach, Max Allegri.”

The heightened scrutiny follows Boniface’s injury record, which includes two anterior cruciate ligament operations and recurring groin and hamstring issues.

The uncertainty is a blow for both player and club, with his prolific form in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen having initially convinced Milan that he could bolster their attack under Allegri this season.

He joined Leverkusen in July 2023 and has scored 32 goals in 61 matches in all competitions. He has also won three titles with German club, including leading them to an unprecedented maiden Bundesliga title in 2023-24, which they won with a unbeaten record.

Milan have reportedly begun identifying possible alternatives, with Sporting striker Conrad Harder, Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, and AS Monaco’s Breel Embolo all emerging as potential options.
