Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has tasked new signing Eberechi Eze to provide the team with a creative spark as they await his highly anticipated debut, Afrosport reports.
Eze completed a £67.5 million move from Crystal Palace and was unveiled at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday ahead of the Gunners’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Leeds United.
The 27-year-old, a boyhood Arsenal fan and former Academy prospect, is expected to make his competitive debut next weekend in a blockbuster clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Speaking after the Leeds win, Arteta praised the England international’s talent and personality, backing him to deliver “magic moments” in Arsenal colours.
“Delighted to have him,” Arteta said. “The talent is unquestionable. He’s experienced in this league. The personality, unbelievable.
“Not surprised, but gladly witnessing everything that he’s about and his family as well. So, they have the rightfulness to this club. And you can tell that what happened on that pitch means the world to him.”
”I think he has the capacity to create these magic moments. He can do it from different positions, different situations. He’s got that flair, he’s got that charisma as well about him that is very contagious.”
Arsenal’s strong start to the season has been dampened by injury concerns, with captain Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka both limping off against Leeds, while Kai Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee problem.
The Gunners currently sit top of the Premier League table and will be aiming to sustain their momentum in pursuit of a first league title since 2004, having finished runners-up in each of the past three campaigns.
