BAL 2024: FUS Rabat blowout Cape Town Tigers in Kalahari Conference Day 3 action

Morocco’s FUS de Rabat continues to show that they belong among the best basketball sides on the continent, following another comprehensive win at the Basketball Africa League (BAL), as they blow out Kalahari Conference hosts the Cape Town Tigers 84-58 on Tuesday.

The Moroccan side were in total control of the game at the SunBet Arena, winning three of the four quarters in a very one-sided affair, as they took a ten-point lead into the halftime break with a 44-34 scoreline.

FUS drew away in the third quarter with a massive 17-point difference, scoring 27 points to the Tigers’ ten. Although the hosts took the fourth quarter 14–13, the damage had already been done.

Aliou Diarra starred for FUS, leading the team with 21 points as well as six rebounds and a game-high three blocks in about 18 minutes of action. Ayoub Nouhi added 15 points, while team captain Abdelhakim Zouita finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and seven assists as the Moroccan side won their third straight game.

Cape Town were led by Samkelo Cele’s 22 points, along with his four rebounds and game-high three steals. Cartier Ducarti Diarra also tallied 11 points and four rebounds as Florsheim Ngwenya’s men fell to their third straight defeat in the conference.

However, with Dynamo BBC out of this season’s BAL, the organisers have cancelled any games involving the Burundian side. This means all three remaining teams in the Kalahari Conference have played just two games, and FUS de Rabat is at the top of the standings with two wins, while the Cape Town Tigers are at the bottom with two losses.

FUS will be in action next Thursday when they take on Angola’s Petro de Luanda at 6 p.m. Nigerian time, while the Tigers will also be in action against Petro two days later on Saturday at 3 p.m. Nigerian time.
