Arsenal sporting director Edu reportedly set for club exit

Arsenal’s Sporting Director Edu is reportedly set to leave his role after three years on the job, Afrosport reports.

According to Daily Mail, it is a mutual agreement after talks between Edu and the board. The reasons behind the former Brazilian midfielder’s exit is unclear but it is believed it was his decision to leave.

Arsenal are yet make any statement on the issue but more details expected in the next 24 hours.

Edu joined the Gunners in 2019 as a technical director, but was later moved into the role of sporting director in 2022.

The 46-year-old is a notable figure in the Arsenal backroom staff as he was largely involved in the squad rebuild process under Mikel Arteta which has seen them finish second behind Manchester City in back-to-back seasons and also qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Edu was a former player for Arsenal, featuring 127 times in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists.

He won two Premier League titles including the invincibles of the 2003-04 season, three FA Cups and one Community Shield.
