Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim cooled off on the assertion of his team winning this season’s UEFA Europa League title, Afrosport reports.
The Red Devils are considered one of the favourites for the title and despite their inconsistent run of form in the Premier League, were unbeaten during the Europa League league phase, finishing inside the top eight for an automatic spot in the round of 16.
United will face Real Sociedad in the first leg at Reale Arena on Thursday evening, and while Amorim understood the importance of winning the tournament, he emphasised that changing a lot of things within the club was the bigger goal.
“That is clear, I think is not the crucial thing for the future of the club. That is my view. And I’m here for three months and I think that is clear. But I understand, it’s a massive difference in our season, especially because we are out of the cups, in a bad position in the league,” he said
“That could change a lot of things, even the way they see the coach. So, I know that is a massive pressure, but I will say it again, Manchester United can have that… can call all the best players even without Champions League in the future. We have to change a lot of things, and we are trying to do that.
“So, I think that there is more important things than win cups in this moment. That is my feeling. But I understand that winning Europa League can change everything for us in the next season.”
