Ahmed Musa bows out of Super Eagles after 15 Years

Nigeria’s all-time capped player, Ahmed Musa, has officially announced his international retirement, Afrosport reports.

It concludes a remarkable 15-year career during which Musa represented Nigeria at three World Cups and five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, achieving a record 111 caps.

Musa’s retirement follows his exclusion from Eric Chelle’s latest Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

The former Leicester City winger publicly confirmed his retirement on Instagram on Wednesday, just a day after Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly loss to Egypt in Cairo.

He was a key player in Nigeria’s victory in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He also made history as the first Nigerian to score multiple goals in a FIFA World Cup match, achieving this remarkable milestone against Argentina in a 3-2 defeat in 2014.

He further solidified his legacy by being the first Nigerian to score in two World Cups, netting twice in a 2-0 win against Iceland in 2018.

He expressed his appreciation to his teammates, coaches, support staff, and administrators who have been with him throughout his distinguished career. Additionally, he thanked Nigerian fans, both domestically and internationally, for their steadfast support.

Musa is currently the general manager of Kano Pillars where his career started as a player.
