Mamelodi Sundowns overcame Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the second leg of the African Football League final and 3-2 on aggregate to be crowned maiden champions.
The Brazilians lost the first leg 2-1 in Morocco and needed to make home advantage count by winning at least 1-0 which would have been enough for the aggregate victory on away goals.
Sundowns took the lead in added time of the first half, Namibia forward Peter Shalulile netting from close range after Wydad goalkeeper Youssef El Motie palmed the ball into his path. Aubrey Modiba doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, skipping past two challenges before chipping the ball past El Motie.

Rhulani Mokwena’s men were in total control of the second leg with Wydad posing very little threat by recording only one shot on target compared to Sundowns’ three.
The victory sees Sundowns walk home with the grand prize money of $4 million while Wydad take home $3 million as runners-up.
