What Super Eagles must do to ensure qualification for 2026 World Cup

The Super began their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 loss to Egypt in a warm-up friendly on Tuesday in Cairo, Afrosport reports.

Players had been reporting to training camp in the Egyptian capital city since Monday, with 25 of the 28 called up players already in before the fixture kicked off.

Mahmoud Saber put the Pharaohs in front in the 28th minute before Chidozie Awaziem equalised for Nigeria in added time of the first half.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chellle made a raft of changes at the start of the second half including a debut for goalkeeper Amas Obasogie who replaced Stanley Nwabali.

Egypt however re-established their lead in the 53rd minute courtesy of Nantes forward Mostafa Mohamed.

Nigeria will now travel to Morocco for the AFCON 2025 tournament and focus attention on their Group C opener against Tanzania in Fes next Tuesday while Egypt take on Zimbabwe in Group B.

In the latest update, Samuel Chukueze is the 26th player to arrive camp, leaving only Galatasaray superstar Victor Osimhen and Paris FC forward Moses Simon.
