Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is a doubt for Nigeria’s final Group C match against Uganda at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Afrosport reports.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Chelle revealed that Nwabali is nursing a knee injury, raising the possibility of a change in goal for Tuesday’s encounter.
Should the goalkeeper be ruled out, Francis Uzoho is expected to step in between the posts.
Nwabali sustained the injury during Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday, where he required medical attention. Chelle later confirmed that the issue was related to the goalkeeper’s knee.
The coach also disclosed that midfielder Frank Onyeka picked up a minor knock in the same match. Despite the injury concerns, Chelle struck an optimistic tone, expressing confidence that both players will recover in time for the round of 16.
