Super Eagles interim Coach, Austin Eguavoen, has rated highly the calibre of players at his disposal while noting that the team has the potential to achieve their tasks, Afrosport reports.
Eguavoen, who is having his fourth stint as coach stated this after Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match played at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo.
The gaffer also noted that he tends to tweak his formation in response to the characteristics of the players at his disposal and performing well as the Super Eagles Coach requires the positive mindset.
He said: “Formation is only information… We have players with quality. We can decide to play any system.
“It’s something we discussed and it’s something I’ve observed. I’ve slept over it and I know with the calibre of players we have, we can decide to play any formation and be successful.
“You know, the players are always there, and ehm… You know, when much is expected from Nigerians, that’s when we see performance.
“You know… we’ve been getting a lot of backlash, and, the boys, they know it and we know we have the calibre and quality to be able to beat any team, but we respect teams anyway.
“So anybody can come here and do the same job. It’s not a problem, it’s the mindset. We have the potential. It’s how you check out your opponent and give information and then they [players] will go out and do the job.”
The Super Eagles will head to Kigali for their second AFCON 2025 qualifier against Rwanda on Tuesday.
