AFCON 2025 Draw: Yobo, Aurier & two others to serve as draw assistants in Rabat

Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has been selected as one of the draw assistants for the final draw of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Monday in Morocco, Afrosport reports.

The final draw ceremony, which is slated for the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, will see all 24 qualified teams learn their respective group opponents as well as their path to the final.

Yobo, however, will be joined by African football legends Mustapha Hadji, Serge Aurier, and Aliou Cisse.

The former Nigeria international played 101 times for the Super Eagles, captaining them to their third AFCON title in 2013, one of the six AFCON tournaments he featured in.

Hadji, a former Morocco international, was named the African Footballer of the Year in 1998. He earned 63 caps and scored 12 goals for the Atlas Lions and was given the CAF Legends award in 2011.

Aurier, meanwhile, was part of the Ivory Coast team that won the AFCON in 2015 and 2023. He has four goals in 93 caps for the Elephants and has been named to the CAF Team of the Year four times.

Cisse, on the other hand, was Senegal’s captain in their historic run in the 2022 World Cup before leading the Teranga Lions to AFCON triumph in 2021. The 48-year-old played 35 times for Senegal and was named CAF Coach of the Year in 2022.

The draw will ensure the 24 qualified teams are divided into six groups of four, with the top two and four best third-placed teams advancing to the knockout stages.

The AFCON 2025 finals will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
