AFCON 2025: CAF set date for opening & closing ceremonies

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed to stage the 2025 Africa Cup of Nationa from December 2025 to January 2026.

The tournament that will take place in Morocco will start on December 21, 2025 and end on January 18, 2026.

It will be the first time the biennial football competition will be taking place across two years (2025 and 2026).

Morocco was confirmed as host country for the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in September 2023 after Guinea were stripped of hosting rights due to inadequate preparations.

The 2025 AFCON will take place in six Moroccan cities and six stadia.

The venues are Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, Marrakesh Stadium in Marrakesh, Fez Stadium in Fez and Adrar Stadium in Agadir.

24 teams will qualify for the tournament finale with the qualification phase set to begin in September 2024 and end in November 2024.

CAF, earlier this month, confirmed July 4 for the draw event of the qualifiers that will take place in Pretoria, South Africa.

The last time Morocco hosted the Africa Cup of Nations was in 1988 and the upcoming 2025 edition will be the second time the tournament is staged in the North African country.
