AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: How Super Eagles fared in Guinea-Bissau win

Nigeria returned to winning ways on Monday evening with a 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in the matchday 4 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Following a 1-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Abuja on Friday, Jose Peseiro’s side showed a more spirited performance with Moses Simon powering them to victory with his strike from the penalty spot.

The Super Eagles are back to the top of Group A with nine points after four games – two points above second-placed Guine-Bissau.

Afrosport reviews the performances of the players called by Peseiro to execute Monday’s game at the Estadio 24 de Setembro.

Francis Uzoho: He barely faced any threat as he was rarely called into action all game. 6/10

Bright-Osayi Samuel: Only few would argue that he was the best player on the pitch. Sound in offensive and defensive duties, and he also provided the moment of quality that led to Moses Simon’s converted penalty. 8/10

Semi Ajayi: The West Bromwich Albion defender offered a strong presence in the air but was culpable of sloppiness in possession. 6.5/10

Kenneth Omeruo: The former Chelsea defender brought much-needed calm, composure and experience into the backline. Also offered an aerial threat from set pieces. 7/10

Zaidu Sanusi: An improved performance from his last game but still not convincing. The Porto man needs competition in the left-back role 5/10

Frank Onyeka: The Brentford midfielder completed five tackles in the game. He was a workhorse in midfield and provided cover for the defence. 6.5/10.

Alex Iwobi: He didn’t play a bad game in a midfield two but he didn’t look settled in that position as well. He looked better when he slotted into the right-hand side of attack. 6/10

Moses Simon: His well-taken penalty proved to be the defining moment of the game. The Nantes winger brought energy to the left flank for the Super Eagles. 7/10

Samuel Chukwueze: As lethal as his movement with the ball was, he was let down by his decision-making and in turn, he let down his teammates. 3/10

Terem Moffi: Despite failing to register any of his three shots on target, he had a positive performance while his stay lasted on the pitch. 6/10

Victor Osimhen: The Napoli striker could only get two of his seven shots on target in the game. A frustrating day at the office. 6/10.

Joe Aribo: The Southampton midfielder had an impressive outing off the bench and he was close to finding the back of the net but was denied by the Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper. 5/10
