Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel said that he is recovering well after suffering from food poisoning in Ivory Coast.
The Fenerbahce star missed Nigeria’s opening match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday as he was an unused substitute.
After missing the team’s training on Monday, Osayi-Samuel is now in a race against time to be fit for their fixture against Ivory Coast on Thursday.
The 26-year-old told Brila FM: “Yeah, I got food poisoning, I’m a bit weak today but I should be okay.”
Osayi-Samuel joins the duo of Victor Osimhen and Alhassan Yusuf in the Super Eagles’ recovery list after they picked up knocks in the team’s 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.
Nigeria have started preparations for Thursday’s encounter against host country Ivory Coast and they are aiming to grab their first win of the tournament at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe.
The Elephants of Ivory Coast are top of Group A with three points while Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea follow with a point each and Guinea-Bissau languish at the bottom after their 2-0 loss in the opening match.
