AFCON 2023: Moukandjo slams Cameroon for ‘uninspiring’ display against Guinea

AFCON 2023: Song acknowledges difficult Cameroon start after draw with Guinea

2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner Benjamin Moukandjo has described Cameroon’s 1-1 draw against 10-man Guinea as a big disappointment.

The Indomitable Lions struggled to take advantage of the expulsion of Guinea striker Francois Kamano in the first-half of the encounter at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.

Kamano was given marching orders in the stoppage time of first-half after Mohamed Bayo opened the scoring for the Syli Nationale in the 10th minute.

Cameroon responded with an equaliser after the break with Frank Magri grabbing the equaliser in the 51st minute but Cameroon fans are far from happy with the share of the spoils in their Group C opener.

When quizzed about the performance of Rigobert Song’s team, Moukandjo told beIN Sport: “A big disappointment. Cameroon lacked inspiration against Guinea. When you have an advantage playing 11 against 10, you have to heat up the match, develop the game, create chances.

“Instead, I saw a team that was purring a lot, that didn’t know what to do with the ball at times.”

Cameroon dominated proceedings in Yamoussoukro on Monday but they lacked the final touch to put their chance to the back of the net.

Cameroon were without injured talisman Vincent Aboubakar for the game against Guinea and it remains to be seen if the Besiktas striker will be fit in time for their next match against Senegal on Friday.
