AFCON 2023 Exclusive: ‘Don’t wait for my mistakes’ – Nigeria goalkeeper Nwabali warns critics

AFCON 2023: Okocha predicts outcome of Ivory Coast vs Nigeria game

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has sent a warning to his critics not to wait for his mistakes at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chippa United player appreciated the support he received from Nigerians since he made his international debut in their 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.

Nwabali is gradually becoming fans’ favourite, thanks to his brilliant performance between the sticks and he is keen on his improvement.

Nwabali told Afrosport: “I really wish to see everyone supporting me to better because I am not even doing well now, even with the draw against Equatorial Guinea and win against Ivory Coast, I am not doing so well.

“To my people back home, don’t wait for me to make a mistake before you comment on my performance because mistake will come definitely.”

The 27-year-old also reserved praise for Jose Peseiro for the chance given to him with some bias for his qualities.

“I’m this kind of guy that every coach would like to play because you don’t need to tell me much about what I’m to do, I already know what to do and what is expected of me,” he continued.

“You don’t need to coach me more, you don’t need to say more but I am happy with the coach because he has given me a chance and he is a coach who has the passion to win all games.”
