Bryan Mbeumo will miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for Cameroon after undergoing surgery from an ankle injury that will rule him out for three months.
The 24-year-old was taken off in the first half of Brentford’s 2-1 Premier League loss at Brighton & Hove Albion a fortnight ago, scoring first goal of the game from the penalty spot.
He missed the next game against Sheffield United which also ended in defeat and Bees bosss Thomas Frank confirmed the former Troyes forward will not make it to AFCON tournament in the Ivory Coast next month but expects him to come back stronger.
“[Mbeumo] will not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations,” Frank told the club website.
“Bryan is a positive guy. It’s tough to take, but he will come back stronger. He has a very good mindset.”
