The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the opening ceremony for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will take place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan on January 13, 2024.
The African football governing also confirmed that the four-week football fiesta will be concluded on February 11, 2024.
Next year’s tournament in the Ivory Coast will be the 34th edition of the biennial tournament and it will be the first time the West African country hosts the rest of the continent since 1984.
CAF also confirmed on Thursday that venue and specific date for the AFCON 2023 group stage draw will be communicated before September.
Seven countries, defending champions Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Tunisia and host country Ivory Coast have already qualified for next year’s competition with 17 spots still up for grabs.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is projected for record global TV audiences and stadium attendances as it remains the continent’s biggest footballing event.
