Conference League: Chelsea face FC Copenhagen in Round of 16

AC Milan have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Christopher Nkunku on a five-year deal worth £36 million with add-ons, Afrosport reports.

The 27-year-old Frenchman of DR Congo heritage will take a pay cut, according to BBC Sport and has been granted permission to travel to Milan to have his medical.

Chelsea have also included a sell-on clause on any future sale of Nkunku.

He joined the Blues in the summer of 2023 but only managed to score 18 goals and provide five assists in 62 competitive outings after spending a lot of time on the sidelines due to injury. He was however part of the squad that won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

Nukunku’s imminent departure will bring Chelsea’s summer sales to £309 million, while purchases are around £277 million. The West London club however need to maintain a positive transfer balance to register new signings for the upcoming Champions League season after being hit by UEFA with a £26.7 million fine for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

In other developments, Chelsea are at an advanced stage in their attempts to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, while Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson is in talks to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
