The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed bans to Algerian players Luca Zidane and Rafik Belghali for their part in a scuffle following their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final defeat to Nigeria, Afrosport reports.
The Desert Foxes lost 2-0 to Nigeria thanks to second-half goals by Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.
However, after the final whistle a scuffle broke out between both sets of players and staff, seemingly over a penalty the Algerians were denied earlier in the game.
CAF has handed Zidane, son of France legend Zinedine Zidane, a four-game ban for his involvement while Belghali was handed a two-game ban. Both players will serve their bans during the 2027 AFCON qualifiers which begins in September.
The Algerian football federation (FAF) were also fined $100,000 for improper conduct by its players, officials and supporters.
The FAF has said lodge an appeal on the sanctions.
