Carlos Alcaraz prevailed in the latest instalment of his captivating rivalry with Jannik Sinner, securing a four-set victory to reclaim the US Open title, Afrosport reports.
The Spaniard made a confident start and withstood a spirited second-set comeback from the Italian before powering to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 triumph under the lights in New York.

The men’s final was delayed by 30 minutes due to heightened security measures following the presence of US President Donald Trump at the venue.
Once play commenced, the contest delivered another entertaining chapter in what has become one of tennis’s most compelling modern rivalries—both players also faced off in the French Open and Wimbledon finals earlier this year.
Alcaraz, the reigning French Open champion, showcased notable improvement in his serve—an area that had cost him against Sinner at Wimbledon—ultimately helping him clinch the US Open title he first won in 2022.
Now a six-time Grand Slam champion at just 22 years old, Alcaraz becomes the second youngest man, after Bjorn Borg, to reach this milestone.
His latest victory levels the 2025 Grand Slam tally between the two stars, with Alcaraz winning in Paris and New York, and Sinner lifting the trophies in Melbourne and at the All England Club.
After facing Sinner in a fifth final this season, Alcaraz joked during the trophy presentation:
“I see you more than my family. It’s always a pleasure to share the court with you.”

With the win, Alcaraz also reclaims the world No. 1 ranking from Sinner, who held the top spot for 65 weeks.
Despite flashes of brilliance, Sinner was unable to produce his best tennis across the match. He saved two championship points before Alcaraz capitalised on his third, sealing the title with a blistering 131mph ace out wide.
The match concluded in fitting fashion, with Alcaraz unleashing his trademark smile and celebrating with a signature golf swing.
