Nigeria fall to Namibia at ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier

Nigeria faltered in their attempt to secure back-to-back wins at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, falling to hosts Namibia on Monday, Afrosport reports.

The Female Yellow Greens defeated Sierra Leone in their opening game but suffered an eight-wicket loss to Namibia in Windhoek.

Leke Oyede’s side won the toss and elected to bat first but were undone by a spectacular effort from the Namibian bowlers, who held them to 70 runs in 18.4 overs.

The Capricorn Eagles, meanwhile, quickly recorded 71 runs to clinch the win, giving away only two wickets in 9.5 overs in the second innings with 61 balls remaining.

Salome Sunday scored 22 runs off 28 balls for Nigeria, while Muhibat Amusa hit a four once to record 12 runs off 34 balls.

For Namibia, Yasmeen Khan passed the half-century mark as she finished with 51 runs off 30 balls — hitting eight 4s and two 6s — to win the Player of the Match award. Kayleen Green also scored 15 runs off 20 balls.

The hosts claimed their first win, having lost to Zimbabwe in their opening game. However, they sit third in Group A behind Nigeria.

The Female Yellow Greens will play group leaders Zimbabwe — who overpowered Sierra Leone with a 10-wicket victory — in their final group game on Wednesday. Namibia, meanwhile, will battle Sierra Leone on thr same day.
