Injury blow for Milan as Leao ruled out of Serie A opener

AC Milan will be without Portuguese forward Rafael Leao for their Serie A season opener this Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The 26-year-old has been ruled out after sustaining a calf injury during last weekend’s Coppa Italia first-round victory over Bari.

The Rossoneri confirmed that Leao suffered a “strain to his right calf” in the 2–0 win. He opened the scoring in the 14th minute but was replaced just three minutes later by Santiago Giménez due to the injury.

“The player will not be available against Cremonese and will be assessed on a daily basis ahead of the following fixture with Lecce,” Milan added.

Milan host Cremonese at the San Siro as they look to begin their league campaign with a win under new manager Massimiliano Allegri.
