Ekitike: Anfield beckons for French striker as Liverpool agree deal with Frankfurt

Liverpool advance talks with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike is on the brink of a big move to Anfield, as Liverpool have sealed an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal valued at £79 million, Afrosport reports.

The Reds will pay a £69m fixed fee, with an additional £10m lined up in performance-related bonuses.

The move comes hot on the heels of Liverpool’s failed approach for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak. But the Reds didn’t waste time — they swooped in swiftly, hijacking Newcastle’s chase for Ekitike after Frankfurt rejected a £70m offer from the Magpies.

The English champions have been keen on bringing in a forward to the squad this summer and manager Arne Slot is set to add another talented youngster to his locker room ahead of the new season.

The 23-year-old is expected to touch down in Merseyside this week to complete his medical and pen a six-year deal with the club. He didn’t feature in Frankfurt’s 3–2 pre-season win over FSV Frankfurt at the weekend, with his transfer talks reaching a crucial point.

He had a standout campaign last season — netting 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. His finishing helped Frankfurt secure third spot in the Bundesliga and book a Champions League spot.

Barring any changes, Ekitike will be the third new face through the door at Anfield this summer, following in the footsteps of defender Jeremie Frimpong and club-record signing Florian Wirtz.

Once the deal is wrapped, he will link up with the Liverpool squad for their pre-season tour of Asia — which kicks off with a clash against AC Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday, 26 July. Slot’s men will also make a trip to Japan to face Yokohama F. Marinos at the Nissan Stadium on Wednesday, 30 July.
