Esperance’s journey in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup came to an end after suffering a 3-0 Group D defeat to Chelsea in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
The Tunisian side were off from a 1-0 win over MLS outfit Los Angeles FC in their previous game and knew that victory over the Blues would get them through to the round of 16.
Chelsea, meanwhile needed only a draw to make it through to the next round but were keen to grab all three points and were 2-0 up at the break courtesy of goals from Tosin Adarabioyo and new singing Liam Delap.
Enzo Maresca’s side registered one more goal at Lincoln Financial Field courtesy of substitute Tyrique George deep in added time of the second half.
The result saw Chelsea finish second in Group D behind Flamengo who played out a 1-1 draw with LAFC in Orlando.
