Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving is reportedly set to sign a three-year, $119 million contract extension with the team, declining his $43 million player option, Afrosport reports.
Irving’s new contract will keep him at Dallas for an extended period and includes a player option in the 2027-28 season, with the deal expected to be finalised on July 6 when the new season officially starts.
This new deal will keep Irving on the same timeline with Anthony Davis, who has three years remaining on his contract.
The 33-year-old, who is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 season, averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals over 36.1 minutes per game last season.
The Mavericks are expected to select Duke star Cooper Flagg with the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which starts on Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Irving, who joined the Mavericks in February 2023 from the Brooklyn Nets and helped the team reach the NBA Finals in the 2023-24 season, is expected to lead the team over the next few seasons.
He is averaging 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.3 steals over his 14-year NBA career and is expected to return to the Mavs in January 2026 after recovery from a knee injury.
