Esperance strengthened their hopes of making it to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 following their 1-0 Group F win over Los Angeles FC in Nashville on Friday, Afrosport reports.
The Tunisian giants were beaten 2-0 by Brazilian heavyweights Flamengo in Philadelphia in their group opener while LAFC lost to Chelsea in Atlanta by the same scoreline.
The Red and Yellows were more of the attacking threat in the first half and though LAFC upped their ante after the break, it was the four-time CAF Champions League winners that had the decisive moment in the match in the 70th minute when Algeria forward Youcef Belaili latched on to a lose ball and rifled a low shot past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
