Turkish Super Lig: Osimhen nets brace as Galatasaray’s lead reduces in title race

Victor Osimhen extended his goal tally for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig after netting a brace in a 3-3 draw with Kasimpasa which saw the Istanbul giants reduce their lead at the top of the table, Afrosport reports.

Gala were fresh off a fiesty derby with city rivals Fenerbahce on Monday evening which ended in a goalless draw.

Osimhen’s first goal for Galatasaray, after completing his loan from Napoli, was in the reverse fixture against Kasimpasa, which was a brace and also ended 3-3.

He put the Yellow-Reds in front on that occasion and did so again on Sunday from the penalty spot in the 12th minute.

Kasimpasa took a 2-1 lead in the second half courtesy of Tunisian midfielder Mortadha Ben Ouanes and Croatian forward Josip Brekalo but Galatasaray were able level up through former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Mario Lemina and Osimhen.

Osimhen took his league tally to 16 goals, the second highest in the Turkish top flight behind Krzysztof Piatek of Istanbul Basaksehir.

The draw also saw Galatasaray’s lead at the top drop from six to four points after Fenerbahce defeated Antalyaspor 3-0.

Reacting to the result after the game, Osimhen said:  “I would say disappointment. That’s the best way to put it. We fought against an effective opponent.

“I’m proud of my teammates for their efforts. Football is like that sometimes. This is a really tough league. You have to fight well from the first minute to the last minute. You can be punished very quickly. We continue in the championship race. We have all the quality needed to win.

“I love this team very much. I love my teammates very much, too. I want to do everything for success. I want to support them. I think my friends have the same mentality, it doesn’t matter if they are in the first 11 or on the bench, it is very important for everyone to fight together.

“We feel united with our coach, as players, and with our fans. Sometimes, even if I don’t score, I mark and help the defense. I want to support my team no matter what. At the end of the day, we fight to win. We will go into every match to get 3 points and we are the biggest candidate for the championship.”

Galatasaray remain unbeaten in the Super Lig after 25 games (W20 D5) and will next face Alanyaspor away from home.
