Tom Dele-Bashiru applauds Watford synergy in push for Premier League promotion

Tom Dele-Bashiru has has applauded the synergy within the Watford squad after they recorded a 2-0 Championship win over Luton in the Beds–Herts Derby on Sunday afternoon, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian midfielder put the Hornets in front from the penalty spot in the 11th minute before DR Congo midfielder Edo Kayembe doubled their lead in the 23rd minute.

The result was back-to-back wins for Watford after defeating Middlesbrough in their previous game.

They were previously on a five-game winless run, losing four, but are now only three points away from the Premier League promotion playoffs in ninth place.

“It is a great feeling,” Tom Dele-Bashiru the club website after the game. “I feel like where we are now, this is the best we are as a team in terms of performance levels.

“Everybody is feeling the togetherness, and I think it shows on the pitch.

“A bit of adversity [on why he thinks the squad are together], because the results haven’t been perfect this season – there have been ups and downs.

“But I think, especially from the week building up to the Norwich game, there has been a real change within the team – more confidence, everyone is pulling in the same direction, and I think it shows on the pitch.”


He added: “All the lads knew how important this game was, but we tried our best not to get too emotional about it and just treat it as an opportunity to get three more points.

“We started the game very well, we didn’t allow it to get to the type of game they wanted to play, we played football, especially in the first half we were composed on the ball, we were deserving to go in 2-0 up at half-time.

“The fans were our 12th man – everyone knows the importance of this game, this derby, and they were certainly behind us for the whole game.”

Tom Dele-Bashiru has scored four goals in 17 Championship games this season. He recently returned from a knee injury that kept him out for three months and saw him miss 15 league games.
