The Philadelphia Eagles overpowered the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday night to win Super Bowl LIX and deny their opponent an unprecedented three-peat, Afrosport reports.
The Chiefs came into the game in search of immortality, looking to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls as they were in their fifth championship game in six years.
The Eagles, however, put the ghost of two years ago behind them and were undoubtedly the dominant force, stifling Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes with their league-best defence to eventually lift the Lombardi Trophy in front of a packed crowd.

Philadelphia won its second Super Bowl and the first since 2017, having held the Chiefs to 225 total yards and forced three turnovers, one of which rookie Cooper DeJean turned into a touchdown.
The Eagles’ defence was extremely impressive, as Mahomes, who was sacked six times—three in the first half—threw two interceptions, with the three-time Super Bowl winner unable to create any spark for his team until the fourth quarter.
Philadelphia’s quarterback Jalen Hurts, however, was flying in New Orleans, throwing a superb 46-yard touchdown pass to avenge their 38-35 Super Bowl LVII defeat to the Chiefs two years ago.
Hurts finished the night 17-of-22 for 221 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also broke the Super Bowl record for rushing yards for a quarterback, rushing for 72 yards as well as recording a Tush Push rushing touchdown.
The 27-year-old, who was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP), thanked his teammates for playing their part in the win and added that he learnt from the loss from two years ago.
“I’ve been able to use every experience and learn from it, the good and the bad, using it as fuel,” he said amid the colourful celebrations.
“I couldn’t do any of this without the guys around me. Defence wins championships. We saw the difference they made in the game today.
“I’m still processing this. I can’t wait to enjoy this with my family.”
