Georgia international Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on Thursday sent a heartfelt message to Napoli amid his impending move away from the Serie A club, Afrosport reports.
Kvaratskhelia posted a video on social media to confirm his departure from the Naples club in the ongoing January transfer window.
“It’s hard for me, but it’s time to say goodbye,” the Georgian winger said. “I spent an amazing time here, we shared a lot of memories together, experienced a lot of amazing emotions.
“Napoli was my home, where I felt wonderful thanks to each of you. The path we went through together is still in my mind and it is very emotional. I remember my first goal and feelings.”
The 23-year-old was integral to Napoli winning the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season, forming a deadly attack line with Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.
Kvaratskhelia scored 30 goals and provided 19 assists in 107 matches for the Partenopei in all competitions since joining in July 2022.
“Napoli is a football city, Napoli lives with football and I am happy to have been part of this great history,” he continued. “It was a great honor for me to wear this journey.
“I say goodbye but you will always be in my heart. I know that your heart is very broken but one day I will tell you everything,” said Kvaratskhelia, who wore the No. 77 jersey for Napoli.
The dazzling winger ended the nearly five-minute-long video with a visit to the Spagnoli district, where Diego Maradona’s giant mural is located.
“I could not leave without visiting this special place as this is where you get the most genuine feeling of what Diego means to this city. Here he is admired above all else,” Kvaratskhelia said. “I have to say goodbye to Diego. Goodbye Diego, Goodbye Napoli.”
Kvaratskhelia is reportedly close to joining French champions Paris Saint-Germain after the Ligue 1 club reached an agreement with Napoli earlier in the week.
Napoli are currently top of the Serie A standings with 47 points, three more than defending champions Inter Milan, who have played a game less.
