Former Cameroon international Rigobert Song has been revealed as the new head coach of the Central African Republic national team, Afrosport reports.
The announcement was made on Monday through a decree from the Ministry of Youth, Sports , and Civic Education.
Rigobert Song represented Cameroon at four FIFA World Cups playing as a center back. He replaced Raoul Savoy as the indomitable Lions coach during the 2022 finals at Qatar.
This new position represents Song’s first managerial role outside Cameroon, providing him with a valuable chance to leave his mark on the international football scene.
This appointment comes at a critical juncture for the CAR team, who struggled in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and sit in fifth place in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group.
Song’s experience and expertise will therefore be crucial in turning the team’s fortunes around.
CAR will be looking to grab a spot in the 2026 World Cup as the qualifiers resume in March when they host Madagascar and Mali.
The Wild Beasts have four points from four matches and are five points behind co-leaders Comoros and Ghana.
