Swedish prosecutors drop alleged sexual assault case against Kylian Mbappe

UCL: Real Madrid boss Ancelotti calls for support of Mbappe after subpar display against Liverpool

Swedish prosecutors have closed investigations on an alleged sexual assault by Kylian Mbappe in Stockholm due to insufficient evidence, Afrosport reports.

Reports in Swedish media claimed the Real Madrid and France forward allegedly committed the offence when he visited Sweden with a group of friends in October as he was dropped from his country’s Nations League matches.

On 15 October, Swedish prosecutors announced that they had opened investigations into an alleged incident that occurred in a highbrow Stockholm hotel five days earlier, although names were not mentioned.

Although several Swedish media channels mentioned Mbappe as the suspect, the former PSG star said he was shocked to see his name linked to such an incident.

The 2018 World Cup winner, during an interview on French television on Sunday, distanced himself from the incident and noted that he had not received any summons regarding it, so he was not involved.

The Chief Prosecutor in the case, Marina Chirakova, while addressing the press said,

“I assess that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed, and the investigation is therefore closed.”

She also noted that the suspect was not notified of suspicion of a crime.

According to Swedish outlet, Aftonbladet, Mbappe and his friends dined at a restaurant on the evening of the incident before going on to a nightclub.

The outlet also stresses that the complaint was filed on 12 October after the alleged victim had sought medical attention.
