Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the Serie A Forward of the Year award in the prestigious Gran Gala del Calcio Awards, Afrosport reports
The Gran Gala del Calcio is an annual event organised by the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) with the aim of rewarding the best players, coaches, clubs, and referees over a single Serie A season.
Lookman will compete with the Inter Milan duo of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram as well as AC Milan’s Rafael Leao for the honours.
The 27-year-old has been in exceptional form for the Bergamo club over the last two seasons, notching 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 45 matches across all competitions last season.
Lookman has already recorded eight goals and five assists for La Dea this campaign as they currently sit second in the Serie A standings and are unbeaten in four games in the UEFA Champions League.
The Nigerian forward, who finished 14th in the Ballon d’Or ranking, is also the frontrunner for the Africa Footballer of the Year award having made the final five-man list released by the Confederation of African Football.
Ademola Lookman, however, was not the only one linked to Atalanta to get nominated as Italian manager Gian Piero Gasperini is up for the Coach of the Year award, and the Bergamo club is also in the running for Club of the Year.
The winners of the awards, determined through votes from the league’s footballers, will be announced in a grand ceremony on December 2.
