NBA: LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards receive huge fines for misconduct

Charlotte Hornets guard Lamelo Ball and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards have both been fined by the NBA for misconduct, the league announced on Sunday.

In a statement released by Joe Dumars, NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, Ball has been handed a $100,000 fine for “offensive and derogatory comment”.

The 23-year-old, who was the third overall pick in the 2020 Draft, made an offensive and derogatory comment in a postgame interview after the Hornets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 115-114 at Spectrum Center on Saturday night.

Ball finished the game with 26 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as they recorded their fifth win of the season, and is currently averaging 29.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game, while shooting 44% from the field.

Meanwhile, the first overall pick in the 2020 Draft class, Edwards, has been fined $35,000 for making an “obscene gesture of the playing court”.

The incident occurred in the first quarter of the Timberwolves’ 130-126 overtime win against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center on Friday night.

The Olympic gold medalist finished the game with 36 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Across 14 games this season, he is averaging 28.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per games, while shooting 47.6% from the floor and 42.4% from the 3-point line.
