Double injury blow for Real Madrid as Rodrygo, Vazquez set to be sidelined for a month

Real Madrid will be without Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez for at least a month after the duo sustained respective muscle injuries, Afrosport reports.

Rodrygo has been diagnosed with an injury to the rectus abdominis muscle in his left leg, while Vazquez has sustained an injury to the long adductor muscle of his left leg, Real Madrid confirmed on Monday.

Rodrygo was forced off during Madrid’s 4-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday and was replaced by Morocco international Brahim Diaz. The Brazilian international has scored three goals and provided two assists in 15 matches in all competitions for Los Blancos this season.

The 23-year-old has picked up another muscle injury after he was forced to miss last month’s El Clasico against Barcelona with a muscle-related problem.

A statement from Madrid read: “Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Rodrygo, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the rectus abdominis muscle in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”

Meanwhile, Vazquez did not return for the second half against Osasuna, as he was replaced by veteran midfielder Luka Modric due to a knock.

The 33-year-old Spain international has been playing as a makeshift right back for the Spanish champions due to Dani Carvajal’s absence, and his injury further poses a threat to Madrid, who are short of players in defense, with Eder Militao also picking up a season-ending injury against Osasuna.

“Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s Medical Services on our player Lucas Vázquez, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the adductor longus of his left leg. His progress will be monitored,” the club’s medical report on Vazquez stated.

The duo will miss Real Madrid’s match against Leganes in La Liga as well as their trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in matchday five in the UEFA Champions League on November 27.
